A lot of experts and experienced runners recommend running negative splits. What does this mean? Negative splits require you to increase your pace gradually through out the race so that you run the second half of the race faster than the first.- Ronaldo Da Cost did this when he set the men’s marathon world record in 1998 and Paula Radcliffe did the same when setting the woman’s world record in 2002.
Why does it work? There are several physiological and physiological explanations but I don’t think you need them to convince you. Just give it a go, if it helps you improve your time/feel better when you’re racing keep it up, otherwise give it a miss.
Give negative splits a go it may help you reach your target time!
