Learning a language

Hi everyone.
I ahave set a goal of learning Spanish, and have started with some evening courses but am finding it really difficult to learn vocabulary. I hear them during the lesson, repeat them a lot but find that I completely forget after a couple of days! Does anyone have any recommendations?

When I was learning French, I found it really useful when learning words to do with the house if I put 'post-it' notes on all items around the house with their name in French. This meant that no matter what I was doing at home, I would always be learning these words. This worked really well for me - give it a go!

JK - I was learning Spanish a while ago and I had exactly the same problem.
I found this program called 'Linkwords'. Basically, it is a CD set which links Spanosh words to a visual image.
For example, the spanish word for rice is 'arroz'. The program got me to visualise arrows landing in a plate of rice.
This may sound ludicrous (it did to me at first!) but it really really worked. I was amazed that by just listening to it once it really made the words stick.
