Savings

Nobody knows what life will hand them tomorrow. If one or both breadwinners in a family should suddenly lose their job, it could be disastrous. When it comes to finances, the boy scout's motto of "be prepared" is good advice for us all.It never made more sense to build an urgent situation account than in today's fickle economy. Great progress!

My husband and I have been saving for just over a year since I first set this goal, and together we have put aside almost 8,000! Really quite amazing, as we never really saved anything before.
I created a budget, and check it at the end of each month against our bank statements. We don't always meet it, but pretty much always close. We have had to cut back on a few luxuries, but honestly I don't notice too much difference in my life, but we now have lot more saved up! It is well worth it.
My target is 20,000 - so we still have a way to go - but looking at my progress so far, I know that it is possible.
I am also coming up for a promotion at work and, if I get it, should make this all a lot quicker as I will keep the same budget.
Good luck everyone!

Save a minimum of $5,000 or more with in one year!

On track so far

A while ago I set my plan to save £200 each month until I had £10,000 - a long term project! This seemed so far away when I started, but it really does add up quickly! Since I started I have kept to £200 saving a month, and when I checked this week I have £1,800 - what an awesome feeling!
With Christmas coming up I need to buy some presents, so may fall behind plan, but will make up for it in early 2011. So impressed with myself after seeing the money build up.

Need savings!

I have decided I need to put some money away for savings. I currently spend everything I earn, but I think if I set up a standing order which pays some money into savings as soon as I get paid, I won't be able to touch it.
I am going to set a standing order to move £300 directly into savings at the beginning of next month.
I am going to consider this goal complete when I have £10,000 in savings.

Doubled my monthly savings

Since doing this goal I have doubled my saving effort to £200 a month, which is great! I have really started cutting back on my spending, and I am really starting to feel like I am achieving something, which is great.

My target is to save £10,000, and at this rate I should be done in 28 months (!). This sounds like quite a lot of time at the moment, and it will mean careful saving for all that time, but if I could have £10,000 in savings in just over 2 years I would be thrilled with myself!

A good start

I am determined to do this now and save some money. I have done a budget for both me and my husband, which will allow us to have a small amount of disposable income to do what we want with every week - and this is the only money we are able to spend. All additional money will be debited directly into a savings account (I just set this up and it is separate from the checking account so don't have easy access to it).
Next step is just to ensure we don't spend any money from the savings account each month!
