"Small acts can make a big difference"
How I did it
Last weekend I was out walking our dog when I ran into our neighbour, who was in the process of selling her home - in fact she was having an open-house that very afternoon. We only spoke briefly, but I could tell she was quite stressed.
When I got back home, I took some of the lavender from my garden. Gosh, it smelled good and the purple flowers were so pretty. I bought it to my neighbour for her open house that afternoon, and her expression was such that it really made my day.I also got her to stop and take a couple of deep breaths in an attempt to reduce her tension.
Anyway, the following day I had a note in my mailbox from my neighbour thanking me for my thoughfulness. Apparantly, everybody had commented on how wonderful her house smelled, and my kindness had made her feel a lot less stressed, I was really pleased.

Tips & Advice
I would just say that it is the gift from the heart that is often the most appreciated. I often find that I holod back from some kindness as others may think they are silly, or the act is too small or wouldn't make any difference. Actually, this is probably the greatest gift of all.
Keeps me happy
Every time I perform a random act of kindness it brightens up my day a bit - This morning I helped someone moving in down our road lift the sofa through the window. - Why it had to go through the window in the first place is a long story :-)

CloseGiving some time
To helps kids learn to swim. I love swimming, and I used to train every morning so got to a pretty good standard, but in recent years have not swum much at all. I bumped into a teacher who works at my old junior school, and I ended up volunteering to teach a couple of classes how to swim every Friday morning. I am actually quite excited about doing this!
I think this counts as a random act of kindness, right??

Did the shopping for the old girl next door!
I have noticed that the old girl who lives next door really struggles with her shopping when she comes back to the flat. I often think about offering to do her shopping when I do mine, however never quite got round to it. This weekend I offered to do her shopping for her, and she was absolutely delighted - it only took me about 10 mins extra.
I am going to keep doing this every week, it really is no hassle for me, and she is really grateful.

Feels good
I have an old neighbour who appears to spend most of his time alone, and has few visitors. Everytime he sees me he invites me over for tea, but I always decline having so many 'better' things to be doing with my time. I had just signed up to the site, and had this as a goal when he invited me over, so I figured why not?? I only intended to be there for about 10 mins, but was there well over an hour, and have to say I enjoyed his company - a very nice guy. I am going to try and do this weekly (I never thought I would say that!)

CloseA simple compliment
I often think good things about people but very rarely tell them. Why? I am not sure really - I guess I am often scared or embarrassed.
Anyway, there is a guy at work who I think is a fantastic dresser - the clothes he wears are so stylish and really bring out the best in him, with so many guys being a fashion disaster I really appreciate this. I have thought it many times but never said anything, so today I made a point of telling him all of this, and he was really happy and touched - I could tell I made his day.
I guess it is daft for me not to share with people the good things I think about them, especially when I see how happy it can make them.

Giving blood tomorrow
Love the idea of doing a random act of kindness - I am on the lookout for opportunities and ideas, but in the meantime I am going to give blood a centre near my work tomorrow!

CloseGave up my seat on the train
I have quite a long trip to work, and the train is always absolutely packed - competition for seats is fierce!
This morning an older lady got on the carriage and had no seat, so I gave mine up for her.
I realise this is nothing amazing, but she was really happy and grateful and it made me feel strangely good - so much so that I didn't mind standing for the rest of the journey!

Appreciation is the best
A couple of years ago I had a bad day, and that night, when I got home from work there were roses on my front porch, with a note that said "Thank you for everything you do".
Honestly, that one thing completely turned my day around, and I was happy thinking about it for days - it brings a big smile to my face even now when I am writing this.
My act of kindness will be to find an inventive way to thank my husband for all he does for me, I don't tell him nearly enough.

Hey Shelly
Love this idea! I am going to the same thing to my wife - she is amazing and to my shame I can't remember the last time I told her. I know she will be really happy by this.
Thank you!
