Starting my blog

Coder's picture

I have just started a blog with my friend, based around the subject of self improvement / personal development. I am glad we finally got round to this, as it is a subject I am really interested in. I am doing because I love it, but it would be amazing to start earning some money from this as well!
Before I start promoting this and getting it out to the public, we need to get the site finished and a lot more content on there. I intend to have this done by the end of March 2011, and will start pushing for users then, making money from affiliate products and adsense.

Advertising starting to pay off

With increased volumes to my site. I have about 150 unique visitors a month, up from just 40 a few a months ago. This is still not where I want to be, as I would like several thousand users, but it is certainly a move in the right direction!
Even better news is that I have placed the ads in more prominent locations, and my click through rate has increased from 2% to 8% - massive improvement! What with the increased traffic to my site, this means that I have started to make some money from my website! It is only $10 so far, but it is quite satisfying (in fact, very satisfying - there is nothing quite like making money off my own creative endevours!). It also gives me hope that I will start to generate more money as I perfect the placing of my ads, and increase the number of users to my site.
I am going to keep this as a goal, my next milestone being to make $100. The next step for me is just to increase the number of links going to my site.

Going ahead

I have been discussing a website business with my friends for some time now, and we have decided to push ahead with it. It is basically a website where users can go on and personalise greeting cards for all occasions and send them out directly from the site. We have worked hard to get some unique (and I think funny!) cards for our selection and we are ready to go ahead. The problem is to build such a sophisticated website takes skill and time, neither of which we have a lot of! We will have to pay someone else to do this, but the best quote we have so far is £10k, so we need to find a way to come up with the cash before we go ahead.

Increased traffic, but still no revenues.

Good news is that my advertising has started to pay off in terms of generating visitors to my site. I have put links to my site from articles and my blog, and at the moment I am getting about 40 unique visitors a month. This isn't amazing, but it is pretty good as a start. This is the good news anyway....
The problem is that this additional traffic is not generating any extra cash for me. I am just not getting the click throughs I had hoped for.
I am looking at doing 2 things to increase clickthrough rates:
1. Continue to drive traffic to my site through links and advertising.
2. Increase the visability of the click throughs. I need to ensure that users see them, and then they are more likely to click them.

Good luck to the rest of you.

Just the beginning....

I have an idea for a website, which I am hoping to make a lot of money from, although it is still early stages. I think the concept is sound, however I have a bit more research to do before I move ahead with the idea. Good luck to everyone here - a worthy goal!

Make some money from my site

My brother and I have finally got our first website together and we want to generate some money from it. It has taken over a year to create it but I really know we can make some good cash from it.
My goal is therefore to make some money from my site.
