I have been playing for lessons, and as I want to push myself to learn I have decided to go through the grade route, building up from 1 to 8.
I have had lessons over the last 10 weeks (1 lesson every week), and I am really enjoying them and since I am practicing a lot, I am improving loads!
However, I have been told it may take me another year to get to grade one (apprarantly it takes on average about 2 years, so although I will be quicker than this it is still a long time!).
I intend to get my grade 1 by November 2011.

I have taken the plunge and booked piano lessons. I have a keyboard at home, and I have been trying to teach myself but I am getting frustrated at the slow progress.
I therefore took the step to take some real lessons, with a real teacher!
I had my first lesson last week, and it was so much better - I can't believe I'd held off doing this for so long! I am going to keep this up, and practicing between lessons, until I get to a good standard.

When I was younger, my grandad would always play the piano for me and I used to love it. My grandad used to love playing the piano for me, and when I think about it, it still moves me to tears.
I promised myself that one day I would play the piano to my grandad as I knew how happy it would make it. However, as the years went by and I grew up, I forgot about this promise, or prioritised other things. When my grandad passed away, I remembered this promise and it made me so sad that I would not be able to do this anymore.
I have decided to fulfil my promise, and I believe if my grandad could see me playing and enjoying the piano he would be so happy.
I have recently found an instructor who comes to my house to give me a lesson once a week, and I am practicing at least 4 - 5 hours on top of this a week. I am really enjoying it, and my new promise is to play to my grandchildren the way my grandad used to play for me.

I have been learning piano for a couple of years on and off, but have lacked the dedication and consistency needed to get me as good as I would like to be.

To date, I have mainly focused on learning through online tutorials (there are several on youtube, and I few I have added to this goal page). I have learnt quite a few songs this way, but I am begining to forget a lot of what I have learnt.

I have decided to dedicate myself to this goal more fully, and I want to learn correct technique, and I want to learn to read music. I am therefore going to take lessons, as I think this is the best and quickest way for me to further my development.

I have contacted a couple of piano teachers near me, and aim to set up my first lesson by the end of next week.

I truly love the piano, I always have. For a number of years I have been promising myself that I will learn, but I have never got round to it. I went to a bar the other night where there was a guy playing the piano and people were stood around singing – it was amazing. It reinforced my desire to learn – it’s now or never!
