"I can actually cook!"
How I did it
The is no real secret to learning how to cook for me. Once I decided to cook, I picked up a simple cookbook and had a go at some of the recipes. They were actually a lot easier to understand and follow than I thought they would be. For me, it is essential to get a book which has simple recipes and is easy to follow - I would highly recommend Jamie Oliver Ministry of Food for beginners - it is a great resource for me.
Although I messed up a few recipes, I learnt from my mistakes and I now have about 6 or 7 meals which I can cook to a pretty high standard. People have actually complemented me on my cooking recently, which is amazing considering how bad I was before!
There was no secret. Just got a simple cookbook and got started. Followed the instructions. Screwed up, tried again. I started small and worked from there. Eggs were the beginning, over-easy to scrambled to omelets. Then pork chops without shake and bake. Then I did bread and will go on from here ad infinitum.

Tips & Advice
I used to think that cooking well involved some kind of magic or inate ability - but really it is so much simpler than I anticipated.
I would recommend that people get a simple cook book and just have a go at a few recipes, you'll be amazed at what you can actually do if you follow a few simple instructions.
You have to be willing to spend a bit more tie cooking, but it is so worth to have hungry mouths happy to eat your food!
Healthier cooking
Since I have started to learn to cook, my diet has improved massively as I have complete control over the ingredients in my food.
I have selected a couple of healthy cook books and mainly cook from these - a lot of the meals are actually really tasty. I still need to improve and get into the habit of cooking these meals regularly as I am still tempted to revert back to my old habits of eating pre-packaged and junk foods.
I am really enjoying this goal so far, and it is certainly helping me with my other goal to lose weight. I am going to step up the gear now and commit to cooking at least 3 healthy meals every week.
