"I have the power over how I feel"
How I did it
I began to get happier as I removed the negative influences in my life. One example, I had an extremely negative friend, who whenever I spoke to them dragged me into feelings of negativity and depression. I began to take a turn when I started to stand up for myself - I stopped seeing friends who had a negative influence on my life, I quit a job I hated and went back to Uni to get a teaching degree, I worked to get a positive group of friends.
I realised that our thoughts become things, and I worked to focus on positive, on things I wanted rather than on things I didn't. It took me all of my life to realise this, and since having this insight I have been so happy. So, in my experience, happiness is an inside job and, although I am happy now, I will have to choose to focus on the positove every day of my life to stay this way.
Good luck to you all, I wish you all happiness.
Tips & Advice
It takes significant dedication and effort to conciously change your thoughts. You need to monitor your thoughts, and when you catch yourself thinking something negative, and start thinking positive. You may not be able to monitor all thoughts, but a good indicator is your feelings - when you feel bad you are often thinking negative thoughts, when you feel good you are thinking along the right lines. After a while, you should find that you are naturally thinking more positively without much effort.
