"In control!"
How I did it
Basically, I spend less money than I made. This might sound incredibly basic, but essentially this is all you need to do.
I spent as little as possible, and everyting else on top of what I spent I used to pay down my balances.
I still spent enough to live a good life - but I did have to cut down on a lot of the things I used to buy - I was terrible for buying anything and everything - the iphone, latest gadgets, new car. I finally realised that I didn't really need these things, and essentially they didn't make me happier - in fact buying them simply added to my debt and increase my stress levels in the long run! If you do find you feel you need these things to fill a void in your life you need to identify and recognise this fact - this was my first step in starting.
This did take some dedication, sacrifice and time, but I finally DID IT - and I feel great for having done it. I have made a firm commitment to myself not to invite debt back in! I have definitely changed my view on borrowing and spending money.

Tips & Advice
As a first step, make a firm commitment to do what ever it takes to become debt free.
From there, keep a close eye on everything you spend - I was absolutely shocked at where some of my money ended up! I wasted so much on crap.
Allow yourself some money for your own indulgement - for fun, but set yourself an allowance and stick to it.
I found the "Snowball technique" really works. Basically you pay the minimum payment on all but one balance and use all available cash to focus on repaying one balance. By doing this, you will pay off one debt really quickly - much more so than spreading it over a whole load of different balances.
Sell things you don't want any more. I sold a lot of my old toys on ebay, and made a fair bit of cash which I used to pay down my debt. I have got to say, it is amazing what some people will buy!
Becoming debt free
When I started this goal, I was embarressed to write that I was almost £15k in debt. Since then, I have paid off £8k - which is pretty awesome, less than £7k left!
I am starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel, and I have paid off £8k despite there having to buy a new bike (which cost about £1,000). With that in mind, I could have this goal complete by the end of the year!
If I finish getting out of debt and just focus on saving money, I will be worth quite a bit in a few short years!
